TWO WORLD RECORD holder, versatile 53’ 11" (16.15m) U.S. sailing yacht SAGESSE is the world largest sailing yacht to have ever sailed from the Atlantic to the Mediterranée, across France, via the Canal du Midi, and from The Med to the North Sea and back across France, Belgium, Holland and into Germany. A mediatized world event.
Important features:
1) Long straight keel for safety; permit beaching; for longitudinal tracking stability while cruising; cheaper hauling out by using fishermen's inclined ramp.
2) The flared bow greatly increases buoyancy to prevent "submarining".
3) Raked, rounded stern to resemble double-ender to let following seas pass easily under without "pushing" the vessel in a dangerous broach.
We are visting this interesting ketch in a weeks time and look forward to telling all.. from speaking with the intrepid owner, if you are thinking of setting off for the horizon, she sounds perfect..

Afloat down in her berth at the New MDL marina in St Carles De La Parita, (south of Barcelona.. which is available as well.. 28 year for approx £37,000) .we viewed her in the dark, so photos are limited outside..!! however the owner is aboard this week, May 1st and will bring us more detail back.. Nice big solid boats sat at the perfect spot from where to cruise the med..
The owner lives here in Hythe and enjoyed taking her down through the canals. and obviously she could be brought back the same way..Recent electronics (2009) , Full epoxy job in her past,, Recent (5 yrs) Fully battened main and Genoa , High Cut) and lots of good kit, Great value and unlikely to loose value ...ever now !!
