Broom Ocean 40 (flybridge) (1989)

Sat ashore august 2009, having usual works attended,,

Type Semi displacement hull form from John Bennett associates , aft cabin layout to this capable offshore cruising boat. Dimensions LOA 40'5" (excluding aft platform) LWL 33'3" Beam 13'6" Draught 3'3"
Built By C J Broom boats Norfolk , using Aquafibre mouldings. White gelcoats and heavy hand laid laminates in GRP. Mahogany based interior woodwork with satin finish. Hull epoxied from new, Engines 2 x Volvo TAMD61A 's 306 hp turbo diesels driving straight shafts through handed hydraulic gearboxes and "P" brackets to three bladed bronze propellers. These engine look immaculate and have been well maintained. The give a 23 knot maximum and will cruise her at 17 knots (approx 2,500RPM) reported burn of 2.5NM per gallon EACH. they have run 1,000 hours from new. " Spurs" rope cutters fitted to each shaft.
Tanks Stainless fuel tanks outside each engine hold 120 gallons each with a stainless water tank under aft bed of 110 gallons. Berths Usual Broom double aft cabin (off set) double berth), with en-suite facilities. twin cabin forward also with second facilities and a conversion to the forward dinette gives six.

Interior

We will look around the exterior first then down below.

Stainless Bathing platform with Teak treads, snap davits, hold Avon 310 rib, straps hold in place. The owner finds this safe and simple and the dinghy can not collect any water !, it also reduces the Length overall for berthing and stresses the transom far less that extended arm davits.

 

great aft deck with two seat/locker boxes, cushions are stowed but are as new, note outboard stowage pad,

stb side deck, usual wide safe side decks, GRP spray dodger mouldings run around aft deck and extend forward each side.

steps up to flybridge are easy , note hinges just visible on GRP radar arch, inspection hatches give access to anything that might need to be "got at", Anne-Marie demonstrates that walking around deck is easy!!

Lofrans Tigress 24 volt windlass with warping drum, remote switches at helm and flybridge as well as here at winch. 15 KG Bruce anchor

helm seat, note covers on each seat and each piece of electronics and then an overall cover has kept thios all in excellent shape..

OK, down inside, sliding Perspex door stb side aft from aft deck, looking forward in to spacious saloon, , helm set to port,

lower helm, simple effective layout, recent large screen displays for radar plotter etc.. simple Morse single lever controls..

History With second owner since 2000, (last survey) maintained to a high standard by engineer owner, full paper trail from new, Part one registartion.
Broker's Comments Light airy boat with solid feel, She is a "classic" Broom offshore cruising boat, well built and comfortable. Able passage maker and well behaved at slow speeds the owners report her to be easy and predicable to handle at berthing and have enjoyed her ever since they bought her nine years ago.
