Broom 38 Cl (1999)

Alongside home berth Southampton

Type Semi-displacement with fine entry and three quarter length deep keel under flatter aft section , hard chine. . Twin straight shaft drive. The keel is deep enough for the boat to "take the ground" should you wish and I have fitted beaching legs to these boats before which extends cruising area.. the deep keel obviously also increases protection for the stern gear. Dimensions Loa 11.74m (38'6" ) Beam 3.96m (13') Draught 1.06m 3'6") air draught arch down approx 3.2m ( 10'6") Displacement approx 10 Tonnes
Built By Broom boats of Norfolk with Hand laid GRP to hull and superstructure. Navy gelcoat to hull sides ( not under water) and white superstructure. Mahogany based interior woodwork with satin varnish finish. Designed by Andrew Wolstenholme she became motorboat of the Year in 1997. Engines 2 x 250 hp six cylinder Yanmar turbo diesels . Manual Morse single lever controls. These units give her around 25 knots when clean and will cruise fast at 20 knots if asked.. or happily cruise along at a wide range of lower speeds with displacement speed at around 8 knots..
Tanks All pressure tested Stainless steel. wing tanks for fuel outside each engine capacity 2 x 100 gallons and water tank aft under berth of 100 gallons. Nylon holding tank forward of approx 20 gallons with deck and electric macerator pump out to sea as well ( all fitted 2009) Berths Twin good singles forward, double conversion to port dinette, and wonderful master cabin double aft.

when you order a blue hull at Broom they include in the price an upgrade to Chromed bronze skin fittings in place of the usual nylon.

the stainless windows make a huge diffrence to her look, both inside and out. When we say "Stainless windows"... on a Broom the WHOLE frame construction is in S/S not just external covers.. hence outragous price of around £19,000 to have them!! ( it includes. door and top frame as well..)

external screen covers have helped reduce sun fade in side the boat.

stb side deck looking aft, few 38 foot boat have such an easy/ safe deck arrangement. no steps, high rails good inside grab rails as well. Holding tank has deck and underwater discharge options.. (in view with rinse point)

all Brooms have an engine removal deck hatch... not what you want to think about.. but as Brooms are built to last, often owners choose to have engines out after 20 years or so.. for rebuild and clean up of engineroom, also I have seen an engine come and to go off to have a problem sorted in a workshop.. far easier.. and it took only three hours to get it out !!

looking forward,, stainless screen,,, high grab rails..immaculate coachroof side gloss to gelcoat

good view of walk around aft deck.and again grab rails inside as well as out

helm position, perspex paper chart area, grp cover locks over electronic. Tall flat upright screens give little reflection or distortion problems..and you look through glass not plastic!

grp cover off panel to reveal 10 " Simrad plotter radar, wonderful simple layout, Burr panels are as new..

Chart drawer under settee

screen covers still in place.. side entry steps.. these lift off to get at domestic batteries,.. with the side opening door, loading kit is easy, and with large opening windows opposite to stb side it is always possible to get a great flow of air through saloon in hot weather..( Note stereo speaker overhead)

the bottom seat is always a popular "perch" so Broom made a cushion for it!

more stowage to port, HEADS door right of shot

clean grp linings make life easy.

also under that is heavy dense Sound deadening mats.( these can be found under all the carpets in the saloon and I do not doubt that they have a good effect on the running volumes..). and hatch under that to access aft stern kit.. and stainless water tank , note hydraulic red taps to allow emergency tiller to bypass steering pump etc..

Broker's Comments I sold this boat to her first owner who had her built, I then sold her on for him when he ordered a new 42.. the second owner had her for some years and I again sold her on to her current third owner who has spent time effort and some considerable money on inproving and upgrading her, to a rare condition for her age.. quite something and I say it rarely honest,, but this boat has to be seen to be apprieciated.
